What to Expect Sunday Mornings/ Our View of Worship

We're Excited for You to Join Us for Worship!

ABOUT WORSHIP

We view Sunday morning worship as the peak of our week. It’s when we come together as the entire church body to celebrate God’s love and faithfulness to us in the gospel of Jesus Christ. All are welcome to join us. Our style is relaxed and casual. Here are a few guiding principles:

  • Worship is not limited to music, but includes every aspect of our service, from the opening prayer to the benediction.
  • We view worship as a dialogue between our loving Father and His children through the Son by the power of the Spirit. We hear from Him in His Word and respond in prayer, song, and thanksgiving.
  • While all are welcome to participate in worship, no matter where you may be in your spiritual journey, worship is for those who have turned to Christ for salvation.
  • All worship is through Christ and we seek for every part of our worship to be rooted in His Word.
  • Our worship service is shaped around God's Story of Redemption, rehearsing and reminding ourselves of God's greatness as our Creator (Adoration), our rebellion and failure to be who God made us to be because of the Fall (Confession), the salvation we have by grace, through faith in Christ alone (Gospel), and our response to the Gospel as those who follow Christ (Thanksgiving/Sending).

WALKING THROUGH PARTS OF OUR SERVICE

  • Music - Songs are biblical and Christ-centered, with a mix of new and old hymns, worship songs, and psalms. (Colossians 3; Ephesians 5).  Our music leaders are not performing, but leading the congregation to proclaim God's truth back to God and one another. We think it's important for believers to hear one another singing as a way of building up one another in the faith.
  • Prayer - We pray throughout our service (Acts 2), asking God to enable and bless our worship, confessing our sins together as we are reminded of our assurance in Christ, taking time to share and pray over specific requests (personal, missions, and ministry), celebrating the Gospel, and responding to God's Word as we seek to grow in Christ.
  • Preaching of the Word - Our sermons (Acts 2) strive for a Christ-centered understanding of God's Word, knowing that all of Scripture points to Him (Matthew 5, Colossians 2, Romans 3). From this, we apply the Bible to our lives as we seek to grow in following Him. Our sermons typically work through books of the Bible, allowing God's Word to dictate the topics. We believe this helps us to focus on what God has declared is important, while safe-guarding us from overemphasizing personal preferences and hobby horses.
  • The Lord's Supper/Communion - We celebrate the Lord's Supper (or "Communion") every week (1 Corinthians 11). This serves as a response to the preaching of the Word, emphasizing our fellowship with God and one another through Jesus, whose body was broken for us, and whose blood was shed for us. We believe that Christ uses these outward signs of bread and wine by the work of the Spirit to grow us in the inward reality of our salvation through Him.
